Seagate has given a new face to their three year old concept of hybrid HDDs which were a total failure, because that kind of technology was unheard of until now.

Seagate launched the new 2.5 inch Momentus XT, which is acclaimed to be the most powerful, intelligent and ‘affordable’ which delivers SSD like performance without sacrificing storage capacity and affordability.

Seagate claims that this new kind of Solid state hard drive delivers 80% more performance than the traditional 7200 rpm hard drives.

I wish to check whether the claim by Seagate that this hard drive boots a laptop within seconds with the help of SSD, is as true as it sounds. Well, we are aware of the fine print that arrives with these kind of quotations, right?

No separate setup is required for these kind of new hard drives. So, no new peripherals are required to make use of this HDD. Just plug in to you laptop and boot with any OS you wish to.

The HDD comes with a 5 year limited warranty, which means that they will replace the HDD under certain conditions and your data has gone with the wind. So, always be on the edge to have a backup of your data.

Seagate Momentus XT comes in wide flavors of 500 GB, 320 GB and 250 GB. The interface is SATA 3Gb/s.

Bare metal prices for the drive are said to be around $50 more than the same spec of drive without the hybrid design, or $113 (250GB), $132 (320GB) and $156 (500GB). At that price, many users will be tempted. The drive can also be retro-fitted to older machines without the need for special drivers of modifications of the BOS.
