How To Backup Wordpress Blog Data Safely From Hackers and Malicious Content

These days I have read tweets and blog posts pertaining to hacking of WordPress blogs at an alarming rate. These hacks are performed by hackers(You already know that) and the victims are the blog owners and webmasters who are ignorant enough to place the directory and file permissions of their blog intact and without securing them in the first place. While this step is a start from preventing the hack, it is not all that secure.

In order to prevent your blog from being hacked, there are multitude of steps which can be performed. I will write a detailed review of the different methodologies used to secure a blog in the next post. So, coming to this post, even when your blog is hacked there are more chances that you may not loose any data or posts that you have laboriously written until now. The hacker might just intend to place some malicious code which directs your readers to one of his/her interest. But, in order to segregate the approach and place yourself in the finest spot, I urge to backup the contents of the blog on a regular basis.

The more posts you have in your blog, the more pain in the a$$ it becomes to see that you do not have the authority over your blog. So, as a mundane rule, but a Golden Mandatory Rule for everything related to Computers BACK UP, repeat, BACK UP. And do the backup very religiously. As Team Nirvana is still moving along, I do not have many posts to claim. I backup on a fortnightly basis using an awesome WordPress Plug-in WordPress-DB-Backup by Austin Matzko.

Rest assured that the more posts you have, the more age your blog has, the more data is at risk. So, the best option is to install this plug-in and schedule it to at least a month interval. The interesting option is that you can make the backup file to be sent to your mentioned email address. If you use a lot of plug-ins, like I do, it’s best to choose to backup only the core db files rather than all the assembled plug-in data.

Share with us if you use any kind of similar plug-ins and other methods you use to backup your blog.
