We are all aware of the specifications of the Apple Mac Book Air, the laptop which can slip so easily into a mail cover and which can roast your inner thighs if you work on it for more than 30 minutes(can’t say why this is called a laptop then). We are also aware of the craze that Air has when compared to any other laptops in the arena. Even if we have criticized that it heats up very fast, we always welcome if Apple or some other person or organization can give Team Nirvana one. ;-)

OK, now jokes apart. MSI, the Taiwanese based computer manufacturer has launched a Mac Book Air killer competitor, named as X-Slim 340. X-Slim might eventually stand for Extremely Slim. But, this one truly stands to its name.

Powered by an Intel Core 2 Solo processor, which is a low power version and OS by Microsoft of the flavor Windows Vista Home Premium. This laptop is one of the mean machines which are supposed to be running on Intel’s most modern CULV(Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) chips.

So, how thin is it?

Well, not exactly so thin as a Mac Book Air, but X-Slim 340 is 6 millimeters at its thinnest point and 20 mm at its thickes point compared to 4 mm at the thinnest point and 19 mm at the thickest point of Mac. But, the main catch is, why should the consumer pay $1900 + for a feather weight laptop while it can be much cheaper than that. You may think that Netbooks may serve the purpose for these kind of users? But, if you have worked on one, you would definitely understand the compactness of the netbook while compared to the wideness of the laptops.

The weight is lesser than compared to Mac Book Air, which weighs 3.0 lbs while the X-Slim weighs 2.866 lbs. Yes, I agree. That’s surely a turn-on.

The X-Slim 340 comes with a 4–cell or 8–cell battery where the 4–cell battery is the standard and capable of powering up the laptop for about 7 hrs. Accessories and peripherals include Headphone, Microphone, D-Sub Video Out and LAN Port, USB, HDMI, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Extra features like Bluetooth and WiMax can be added.
