If you are a voracious Twitter user and you wish to save your tweets to have a look at them later on, there is a perfect option.
An option, huh, wrong choice of words, there are two options. They are:
- Tweet about this service and Backup your tweets for one year and you can use upto 1 GB to save them(that’s around 1,000,000 tweets)
- Pay $9.95/year and get 1 GB.
And you get all these from BackupMyTweets.com for free and for a small paid premium service. What’s more?

You just give a single tweet that
I’m not afraid to admit it. I backed up my Twitter account! You should backup yours here: http://backupmytweets.com
And your tweets are backed up. If you have thousands and thousands of tweets, then it may take some time to back them up and in the meanwhile, while you keep browsing or tweeting, you will be tweeted that your tweets had been backed up. You can download them for further safe keeping or what so ever.
Here is backed up file of my Tweets:

Just check them out and see if their service is of value to you or not.
Do you think this kind of service is required as Twitter does provide you an option to check on your own tweets from the dashboard itself? Share with us you point of view.

It seems to be an interesting service, but why would anyone back up twitter updates? I don’t see any reason of backing up my own tweets.

That’s a valid question Harshad. Why would anyone wish to backup their own tweets while Twitter does provide them whenever you wish to see?
My perception here is that You can download the tweets and use them elsewhere and you can collate all the important and interesting info on the fly. Download once and check them leisurely, if you have 1000s of tweets.
This service sounds good to me.
What is the need of saving our twitter shouts?
But it looks like a promising service.

@ricky If you wish to check your tweets offline on your laptop or mobile when you are on the move, then I presume downloading all our tweets would do more good.
That’s my idea of the service.
Seem interesting. I have about 2000 tweets so I guess it should not be long to backup. Your post just gave me an idea by the way. I gonna test that and write a post linking to this one if it works. I’ll let u know.

Sure Kurt. I think this service is quite obsolete as you can always use Twitter itself to have a look on your old tweets. But, as they say, nothing is waste in this world!!
Valid point Harsh. But, I believe the constant downtime of Twitter can be stated as a cause for this service to be used. As at times, when you are posting something which can bring Digg and Tweetmeme to send in hordes of visitors and at the same time, the tweet that you done has gone to down south, then utilizing the XML formatted saved tweets would do more good than having thousands of disappointed visitors.
Thats a long call, anyway.
