Alternate Sources of Making Money Online For Bloggers-Copywriting

This is the third and final part of a series meant for bloggers who are working their asses of to make money online. Making money online is a lucrative deal as long as it pays you back. If it’s not paying you back in a good term, then it is not meant for you.

As part of the series, you can read other two sources of making money online at:

  1. Using Affiliate Sales To Making money online
  2. Creating Content and using the same to make money online

This third and final part would conclude this series with another way called Creating Direct Response instances.

This post has turned up a bit longer than I expected. But, that’s how a sales page is, right?

Copywriting, Sales page creation, Sales letter creation, Direct Response, all work with the same motive of making the user, a customer take some kind of action.

This is a bit similar to bloggers like me asking the reader to comment on an article. Here, asking the reader to make a comment is a call for action. Similarly, a sales page makes the customer reading it to buy the product.

So, lets dwell deep into how a Sales page is written and what are the essential parts of Copywriting.

A Sales page is a utility using which the reader’s interest has to be captured, credibility should be built, benefits are described, features are stated, bonuses are offered, emotions are dealt with and the call for action is made. call for action here simply implies asking the reader to buy the product and make use of the innumerable benefits offered by it.

A sales campaign, when done offline resides on the skills of marketing executives, but when the same campaign is done online, people with totally different set of skills are required. These skills are hard to master and it generally takes months of practice which can make a sale happen.

The people who excel in this art of Copywriting are called, yes, you are right, Copywriters. Copywriters, just like the product creators are entrepreneurs. At times, they know what the product actually does more than the product creators themselves.

Common terms which you come across when dealing with Copywriting and sales pages are:

Sales Page/Sales Letter/Direct Response: Yes, this is quite a confusing term for newbies in affiliate and internet marketing. The long page of text that you come across which asks you to read on “How a novice made copywriting1000s of dollars in a week by following a simple path” or “How to loose weight just by watching TV” is quite a good example of a sales page.

Conversion Rate: This is the % of readers who became customers. To put it simply, if you have 100 visitors daily, and there had been 2 sales. Then, the sales page is said to have a 2% conversion rate which is quite good, considered that there are mostly higher conversion rates and sunken ones too.

So, now that you know what a Sales page actually means, lets move on to different elements that make a sales page.

Headline: Just like a blog post requires a catchy title, so does a headline to a Sales page. The initial interest of the user is captured with a nicely captured head line.

This headline should summate the question in the mind of the reader and how this particular page which hosts a product can provide the reader with a solution.

All in a 30-50 word headline. More than that, the reader ‘may’ slip away considering it to be a false statement.

The Copywriters usually have at least a count 50-75 headlines in their arsenal for each sales page. That’s the power of the headline.

Problem: A Sales page is considered to be well received and the sales happen only when it addresses the problem at hand. The problem for which the reader is trying to find a solution.

The problem is specified in detail and also the various views of the problem are defined in this section. This section holds the various set of problems that the reader may face if he does not choose a product as good as what this page is offering.

Different kinds of problems are stated in the form of bullet points. These problems should range so widely that the reader has to think about the solution after reading each problem in the form of bullet points.

For every problem posed in this section, there should be a suitable answer later on in another section. But, this should not be like a quiz in the lines of “Who wants to be the next millionaire?”

Aggravate: This section holds the problem in a more aggressive state. The problem stated above are usually specified in detail here.

copywriting guildFor example, if a sales page is addressing the problems of spyware removal and registry cleaning product, then the problem of getting affected by spywares is usually magnified. The risks are stated in a clear manner, like, how spywares capture the keystrokes and transfer sensitive information like personal email credentials, bank details, credit card information and such.

A tale is usually crafted in such a manner that it touches the emotions of the reader. This is done by stating a real life example or names of people who were actually in the shit hole because of the registry problems and spyware(for above stated example).

This section usually is used widely to touch the soft side of the reader.

While most of the readers do not care to read this, many tend to place themselves in the shoes of the person stated in this section there by increasing the sales percentage.

Solution: As the name implies, this section presents the solution to the problem posed. The product is brought into limelight here by stating its features and benefits to the user if he uses that product.

As everyone likes to get something extra for what they are paying, this section usually holds the actual software being sold along with different free products which are thrown in to impress the reader.

This section, if used in a right manner, increases the sales ratio. So, if you check any sales page do take some time in order to consider all the freebies that are being given away just because you have bought a single software/product.

Proof: This part usually holds the proof of the product in action.

If the product is a software, then you can expect a video clip explaining the software’s different features and how powerful it is.

If the product is an ebook explaining how you can loose your weight, there might be an infomercial thrown in here which speaks about various advantages that the user gets by using that specific product.

If the product is an appliance, then again a short video explaining the usage of the product.

You can expect testimonials from several people in this section. These are users of that specific product which the sales page is trying to sell.

Call to Action: This is the most important section of the sales page, as this closes the deal and asks the user to purchase the product.

The user is urged to purchase the product, the support is mentioned here, the various advantages are again stressed.

That ends the post of specifying another stream of income for people with sales skills. Do remember that Copywriting is an art which requires lots of patience and time in order to succeed.

Copywriting is usually the highest paid job and the charges range from a few hundred dollars to several thousands of dollars.

There are several names which ring the bell whenever I think of Copywriting. I would name some of the most prominent writers here who excelled in the art of copywriting. They are: Robert Cialdini, Rosser Reeves, Victor Schwab, Robert Collier, Eugene Schwartz, Clayton Makepeace and several others.

You breakdown and present the difficulties of writing a sales page very nicely. It is important for everyone to remember that a million visits a day is not worth anything of no one buys your product. Writing copy is not easy but it is a talent that one can gain over time. Very nice articles.
