Most of us are aware of the pain we come across when we get to know after we have deleted a file or folder which held important information. And being tech savvy that we are, we tend to useĀ  the Shift+Delete to erase the contents of the folder permanently without moving the file or folder to the Recycle Bin, our only saviour. But, do not worry because even though we delete the data, the data is not erased from the hard disk permanently in one go. The data still resides on the hard drive, just the physical notation of the data is lost. But, in the real sense, the data is still there until and unless you add some more new data to the hard disk.

Now, we will share some important tools which can provide you the facility to bring back the deleted data.

1. Recover Files 2 (Windows)

2. Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery

3. GetDataBack

4. RecoveryFIX for Windows

5. Symantec’s Norton Ghost 14.0

We have pinpointed on these five tools which would provide every means possible and assure the recovery of the data. We personally prefer to use GetDataBack as the interface is so intuitive and has a less learnign curve.

Just remember that, if you have deleted the file from a drive, suppose D:\, then make sure that you do save any moredata on the drive because, the logical data allocation table might get updated with the new information and your earlier deleted data might get permanently lost.

Do share us your experience and the products you used when you faced the data loss situation earlier.

TestDisk is another good tool. It helps when data loss occurs on a deeper level, when a partition is lost or the disk won’t boot.

@Edd Thanks for adding another Tool to have a look on Edd.

  2. I am a data recovery expert and these tools are fine for the majority of home users who have just deleted a file by mistake, as is “Recuva”. BUT these recover just a sample of what Scalpel and Photorec can (two free tools), let alone Encase or Accessdata FTK.
