Your friends and colleagues would never treat you the same after you perform this trick on them. That’s for sure. You would surely look super cool when it comes to computers when you master this small tricky notes.

So, lets move ahead with a simple 2 step tutorial to start your applications faster than holding the mouse, searching for the shortcut and double clicking the application shortcut in order to fire it up. What you need is a very common application which is used daily or at least on a regular basis to make this work. You can use this trick to fire up any application that you wish to apply this trick on. But, there is a small catch. You can not use this trick on some windows proprietary applications like disk defrag, task manager and Direct X Diagnostics.
We would provide an example by using the favorite program that I use on a daily basis, which is “FileZilla”, an FTP Upload client. Now, what we normally do to launch this application is, yeah, we double click it and the application gets launched. That’s right.

Is there an alternate approach to launch this application without using the shortcut here? One possible solution that you would offer is, go to Start->Programs and access it from there. Another feasible solution might be to browse to the Program Files and launch the application from the Target folder itself. Both are apt solutions. But, if you follow those you would not be called geeks, which is our aim to be called at, isn’t it?
So, here are the two steps which you need to follow.
1. Rename any of your fav application’s shortcut to the shortest name possible which you can remember at all times. Eg: Rename the Winamp icon on your desktop to ‘wa’(no quotes and case insensitive).
2. Place that shortcut in C:\Windows directory. Eg: Place ‘wa’ in ur C:\Windows directory.
Voila, Now hit Start->Run->wa->Enter.
The application launches as if it’s shotcut had been clicked. Try to maintain swiftness in your actions and you would look super cool in front of your non-techy friends.You can share this trick with your friends using the ‘Share This’ button beneath.
